Origin: Japan – Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture

───────
This elegant Japanese bronze vase by Zuiho (瑞峰) combines a distinctive gourd-shaped silhouette with a richly textured green patina and pure gold leaf.
Its form is inspired by the traditional Japanese hyōtan (瓢箪, bottle gourd). A rounded lower body rises through a slender, elongated waist into a gently swelling upper section, finishing in a small opening. These flowing curves give the vase a graceful sculptural presence.
The surface displays mottled shades of deep green, blue-green and darker tones, creating a sense of depth across the bronze. Irregular patches of pure gold leaf provide luminous accents, their softly uneven edges contrasting beautifully with the curved form and richly varied background.
Known also as hisago, the gourd has long been cherished in Japan as an auspicious motif. Its abundant seeds have made it a symbol of prosperity and continuing generations, lending this vase a meaning beyond its decorative appeal.
The underside bears the artist’s signature, “Zuiho” (瑞峰), written in gold powder.
An accompanying leaflet introduces Takaoka bronzeware, providing context for the traditional metalworking craft associated with Takaoka City in Toyama Prefecture.
With its elegant proportions and striking combination of green patina and gold, this vase is attractive both as a vessel for a restrained floral arrangement and as a decorative object in its own right.
