This is a pair of traditional Japanese wooden lacquerware cups. The exterior is covered in a warm, vermilion lacquer, while the interior is entirely covered in gold leaf, decorated with auspicious patterns using the maki-e technique: one cup depicts two cranes, and the other two turtles. Cranes and turtles are both auspicious symbols of longevity in Japanese culture, making this a classic set for birthday celebrations and blessings.

The maki-e lines are delicate, and the gold surface has a rich luster. The set includes the original paulownia wood storage box.
