MEDSAN - Pikachu Kintsugi (金継ぎのピカチュウ) - ORIGINAL Hand & Ceramic, Framed

ONE OF A KIND (1/1) - IN ITS BLACK FLOATER FRAME, READY TO HANG, GOLD LEAF...

On this square ceramic, Medsan brings Pikachu, the electric mouse of the Pokémon saga, into the blue-and-white world of old porcelain. Outlined in cobalt blue on an ivory ground, he fills almost the whole surface, crouched low with his zigzag tail behind him, ears up and brows set in a fierce frown. From his two red cheeks spring branching bolts of lightning, red at the root and cobalt at the tips. In the lower right corner, a tiny Ash Ketchum in his red cap stands at the water's edge beside a cluster of pines and rocks, one hand raised to his brow and his mouth open as he looks up at his partner. A fine crackle pattern, part of the decoration, runs across the ivory, and thick veins of gold, standing in relief, cross it from edge to edge, through the middle of Pikachu's face and down across Ash's legs, swelling into knots wherever they meet. Its title, Kaminari, is the Japanese word for thunder.

The piece is a ceramic with a porcelain-style blue decoration, gilded in the spirit of kintsugi, the Japanese art of the golden seam: every vein is laid in gold epoxy resin and finished by hand with gold leaf. What you receive is the ceramic itself, and since each line of gold was laid by hand, no other piece like it exists.

It comes already mounted in its black floater frame and arrives ready to hang.

Exhibited at the art3f international contemporary art fairs in Monaco (September 2026) and Luxembourg (October 2026), the piece is now offered exclusively on Catawiki.

It will speak to collectors who love Japanese art as much as the icons of pop culture.

About Medsan / Popsan:
Medsan and Popsan are two signatures of one and the same artist. As Medsan, he explores the world of medicine and anatomy; as Popsan, he revisits the icons of popular culture, blending pop art, Japanese art and anachronisms. On Catawiki, his pop works still appear under the name Medsan, but they belong to the Popsan universe. He works within Atelier Joconde, a family artists' studio, alongside the artists Le Yack (figurative painting) and Neo Pablo (abstraction).
