Description
Freestanding Flying Dicranurus monstrosus Fossil Trilobite.
Devonian. Atchana, Morocco.
OUR GRADING FOR THIS PLATE: 5/5 ***** – Top preparation, unique flying display, rarity, authenticity.
See details in the pictures. High-resolution photos, matrix context, individual specimens and magnified views for complete assessment.
The slab is accompanied by:
a) Physical Authenticity Certificate (see 5th photo);
b) Online Authenticity Certificate - scan the QR code at 6th picture
Restoration details: Presented is one of the rarest all natural specimens of this spiny Devonian trilobite species. It suffered minor restorations - the usual little repairs on exoskeleton's and matrix's cracks and at four (4) spines tips, provoked by the extraction process.
The freestanding flying display of the spines is a laborious and very skilled work of dozens (sometimes hundreds) of laboratory hours, just accessible to very few people in all the world.
A plate like this one is a real once-in-a-life piece. Atchana quarry, after more of 30 years being exploited, is each time deeper and diggers tend to avoid it to go to other places now. Atchana's good plates will be more and more scarce from now on.
Dimensions: Specimen: 8.7 x 9.0 cm; Matrix: 17 x 10.2 cm.
Weight: circa 785 g.
Finding locality: Atchana quarry, Anti-Atlas Mountains, Morocco.
Taxonomy:
Species: Dicranurus monstrosus; Family: Odontopleuridae; Order: Odontopleurida; Class: Trilobita.
Geological period: Devonian, from Paleozoic Era.
Restoration — Mechanicaly prepared slab to display individual specimens; Sandblasted fossils, well
preserved, 100% natural specimens - no composites, no painting, standard plaeontological small
restorations on matrix cracks.
Authenticity & Preparation
* 100% natural sandblasted specimens – no painting, no shadowing, no composite additions.
* Restoration: None, except the usual minor repairs on exoskeletons and matrix cracks, provoked by extraction—typical for authentic Moroccan specimens.
* All fifteen trilobites are preserved in situ on the original natural matrix.
A scientifically significant and visually stunning mortality plate, ideal for serious collectors and institutions seeking a masterpiece of Devonian paleoecology.
