卖家的描述
Vintage Japanese “Kagome” Nori Tsukudani Enamel Advertising Sign Showa Era
A beautiful vintage Japanese enamel advertising sign for “Kagome” Nori Tsukudani (カゴメのり佃煮), a traditional Japanese seaweed delicacy.
The sign features a striking deep green enamel background, bold white Japanese lettering, and a distinctive red six-pointed star emblem at the top.
Nori tsukudani is a traditional Japanese food made by slowly simmering seaweed in a savory-sweet mixture typically containing soy sauce, sugar, and other seasonings.
Usually enjoyed with freshly steamed white rice, it has long been a familiar part of Japanese home cooking.
The history of tsukudani dates back to the Edo period (1603–1868), when preserving ingredients through simmering in soy sauce became an important part of Japanese food culture.
During the Showa era, commercially prepared tsukudani became a convenient everyday food, connecting traditional Japanese flavors with the changing lifestyles of modern households.
The narrow vertical format was particularly suitable for display outside traditional grocery stores, food merchants, and neighborhood shops.
Unlike modern advertisements filled with photographs and promotional information, this sign communicates its message through just a few carefully arranged elements: a trademark, a product name, and powerful Japanese typography.
The combination of bold katakana lettering and expressive brush-style characters gives the sign a distinctly Japanese visual identity.
More than simply an old advertising sign, this is a nostalgic reminder of Japan's traditional flavors, neighborhood grocery stores, and the distinctive commercial streetscape of the Showa period.
