This Japanese cast-iron kettle, featuring a high-relief motif of "a hundred cranes," is a quintessential, collector-grade piece used in the Japanese tea ceremony. Crafted from cast iron using the lost-wax casting technique, the entire body is adorned with a design of numerous cranes in flight; the birds are arranged in a dynamic, layered composition, with their plumage rendered in such exquisite, vivid detail that they possess a striking three-dimensional quality.

The kettle is fitted with a curved copper handle, designed for a comfortable grip, and topped with a copper lid featuring a "precious pearl" finial.
