Bronze Alpine eagle with spread wings mounted on World War I bullet.
Origin: Central Italy. Personally purchased by collector of military memorabilia, especially from the Alps.
The eagle was the only animal that could look at the sun without lowering its eyes.
In Latin iconography it was a divine animal also described as: "faithful interpreter of the wills of Father Jupiter".
Therefore it was considered a sacred and superior animal.
Alpini decided to erect it as their own symbol!
Alpini are the mountain troops of the Italian Army.
Mounted on a decorated brass base.
Very interesting historical item.
Carefully packaged, tracked shipping.
