Statue dating from the first half of the 19th century representing the famous Moor of Venice, made of wood and hand-decorated in polychrome with floral motifs. The ancient Venetian statue depicts the gondolier in his typical clothes and, in line with the sculptural tradition of the time, holds an oar in his right hand, also made of wood and decorated by hand, which serves as a symbolic and essential element in the representation. The antique Moor rests on an octagonal wooden base painted by hand with a different motif. Spectacular Moor’s clothes: gold with floral decorations kept in perfect condition, as can be seen from the photos. In his left hand with his arm pointing upwards, he holds a 5-armed golden lamp. No restoration work has been carried out on the piece except on the oar shaft where the colour has been restored, otherwise all colours are considered to be original to the year of creation. Dimensions as follows: base 36 x 36 cm; height 65 cm; maximum width (at the feet) 50 x 50 cm; the statue only: height 107 cm; total height: 180 cm. Very good state of preservation.
