Circa 4th-5th century AD
This lovely silver ring features a round-section shank and a raised bezel housing a stone intaglio depicting a left-facing animal in dynamic pose.
The Sasanian Dynasty, also known as the Sassanid Empire, was a dynasty that ruled Persia (modern-day Iran) and its surrounding regions from 224 to 651 AD. The Sasanian Dynasty was founded by Ardashir I, who overthrew the Parthian ruler Artabanus IV in 224 AD. Ardashir I established the dynasty's capital at Ctesiphon and embarked on a campaign of conquest, expanding the empire's territory and influence. The dynasty's most notable rulers include Shapur I, who expanded the empire to its greatest extent, and Khosrow I (Khosrow Anushiruwan), known for his administrative reforms and patronage of art and culture.
