Wind" is a collection of photographs by Japanese photographer Yaguchi Yasuji, born in Tokushima Prefecture in 1933, whose main occupation was construction. an amateur photographer who started photography in 1972 at the age of 39 and died suddenly of a stroke in 1976 (at the age of 43), his actual active period was about 4 years. He joined the Japan Realism Photography Group, where he learned from Ei Shinzo and others, and was a great admirer of Domon Ken. When viewing Domon's “Pilgrimage to Old Temples,” he would sit upright, cross his arms, kill his breath, and open his eyes wide and remain motionless. This book, which was published after his death at the suggestion of fellow members of the realism group, was produced by Shinzo Ei, Koji Hashimoto, and Yoichi Kamiyama, and contains 108 illustrations selected by Ei, who was in charge of editing the book from nearly 50,000 negatives. In addition to the documentary elements inherited from Domon, Ei and others, the book also features rich beauty of form reminiscent of Yasuhiro Ishimoto and others, the sentimental atmosphere of Nobuyoshi Araki, the high-contrast avant-garde expression of Daido Moriyama, and the mental landscape elements of Yasushi Sugino, etc. The illustrations seem to condense the atmosphere of the 1970s, and the superb editing is fascinating.
