Location: Lacustrine sedimentary layers, western Liaoning, Northeast China
This specimen comes from Early Cretaceous strata in western Liaoning, Northeast China, dating back approximately 100 million years. At that time, the area was a volcanically active lacustrine basin environment. Volcanic ash from periodic eruptions rapidly buried the remains of organisms, allowing the skeletal structure to be preserved relatively intact.
The skeleton in this specimen is original; a small portion of the bones were broken and missing, and were later repaired using glue.
