━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
This bronze vase was created by Kenshun (兼筍), a craftsman associated with the long-standing tradition of Takaoka metalwork in Toyama Prefecture.
The surface displays a rich and deeply layered blue-green patina, interwoven with characteristic copper-toned marbling. This interplay of turquoise, bronze, and warm copper hues is particularly emblematic of high-quality Takaoka copperware, achieved through carefully controlled traditional finishing techniques. The coloration shifts subtly under changing light, giving the piece a dynamic and refined presence.
The silhouette is especially distinctive. From the rounded body, the form rises dramatically into a flaring, trumpet-shaped mouth. This dynamic expansion creates a bold vertical movement, allowing the vase to command attention even when holding large floral arrangements. The shape conveys both strength and elegance.
In contrast to the expressive body, the sculptural side handles (“ears”) are formed as simple circular rings. Their restrained geometry provides a thoughtful counterbalance to the dramatic contour of the vase. This subtle design harmony reflects the craftsmanship and aesthetic sensibility characteristic of Takaoka artisans, where decorative restraint enhances structural beauty.
The underside bears the stamped signature “兼筍,” confirming the maker.
