坂田甚内 Sakata Jinnai (1943–) — 金色雕塑人偶, Mashiko Ware
This striking golden sculptural figurine is a rare example of the unique artistic vision of Sakata Jinnai, one of Mashiko's most original and eclectic ceramic artists.
The piece depicts a standing figure — likely a deity or mythological character — rendered entirely in warm gold metallic glaze, finished with Jinnai's signature Shinjin-mon (深甚紋) swirling pattern work that covers the surface with dynamic, flowing textures of spirals and organic forms.
The face bears a benevolent, smiling expression with elongated headpiece, evoking the aesthetic of traditional Japanese religious iconography. The underside of the figure bears the artist's personal seal character "甚" (Jin), confirming its authenticity.

A compelling collector's piece that merges the traditional craft tradition of Mashiko with Jinnai's distinctly avant-garde sensibility. Ideal for display in a contemporary or Japanese-inspired interior setting.

There is a small ball inside that makes a rattling sound when you shake it.

Artist Profile
坂田甚内 Sakata Jinnai (1943–)
Born in Tokyo in 1943, Sakata Jinnai studied under the celebrated Mashiko ceramicist Kamoda Shoji (加守田章二) from 1964, before establishing his own anagama climbing kiln in Mashiko-machi,
Tochigi Prefecture in 1966. Since 1987, he has held solo exhibitions in New York and across Japan. Working under the artistic name Tōshōjin (陶硝人 — "Ceramic and Glass Person"), Jinnai is celebrated for his extraordinary range of creative output, encompassing ceramics, glass, alloy sculpture, painting, ceramic panels, and decorative objects. His work defies conventional categorization, blending the rustic heritage of Mashiko with a bold, avant-garde visual language entirely his own.
