賣家描述
Item Description:
加藤錦三 Kato Kinzo(1929-)
A refined Oribe Hanaire (flower vase) by Kinzo Kato, a master ceramicist and designated Intangible Cultural Property of Seto City for the art of Oribe ware.
This piece embodies the bold, expressive spirit of the Oribe tradition — characterised by dynamic asymmetry, earthy textures, and the rich, deeply variegated green glaze for which Oribe ware is celebrated.
The tall, slender form of this flower vase carries a confident presence, its surface alive with the luminous depth and tonal subtlety of Kato's distinctive Oribe glaze.
A refined addition to any collection of Japanese ceramic art or tea ceremony utensils.
Accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box (tomobako), cloth, and explanatory card (shiori).
An outstanding work by one of Oribe ware's most accomplished living masters.
Size
Height: 17.0 cm
Width: 9.3 cm
Depth: 9.3 cm
Condition
Excellent condition; no chips, cracks, or damage noted. Comes complete with original signed box, cloth, and card.
Artist Profile
加藤錦三 Kato Kinzo (1929–) is a highly regarded ceramicist born in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, into a family with generations of pottery heritage. He encountered the celebrated master Kato Tokuro at the age of 25, which set him firmly on the path of ceramics. Dedicating himself above all to Oribe ware, he spent years sourcing the finest local clay bodies and glaze materials from the surrounding mountains, achieving works of exceptional texture and depth — noted especially for the luminous blue tones within his Oribe glaze. In 2006, he was designated by Seto City as an Intangible Cultural Property holder for the technique of Oribe ware, one of the highest recognitions conferred upon a living craftsperson. He is a full member of the Japan Kogei Association and has served as an instructor at the Chunichi Culture Centre. His eldest son Ikuo continues the tradition at the family kiln.
