賣家描述
Functional, domestic cup with a slightly flared (outward) rounded rim. The body is hemispherical and deep, resting on a ring-shaped foot with a simple profile and flat base. It has a single circular horseshoe handle inserted horizontally just below the rim.
Unlike the luxurious vessels used for banquets (symposion), these cups were intended for more everyday, domestic use, serving as drinking vessels for wine or water, food serving dishes, or even measuring cups for ingredients. It belongs to the so-called black-glazed tableware, which became immensely popular throughout the Mediterranean during the Classical and Hellenistic periods due to its durability and aesthetic similarity to more expensive metal vessels.
Provenance: French private collection formed in the 1980s/ Acquired at Auction House, France, 2026
Statement seen by Catawiki. The seller guarantees that he is entitled to ship this lot. The seller will take care that any necessary permits will be arranged. The seller will inform the buyer about this if this takes more than a few days.
For buyers outside the European Union (EU) a Spanish export license is required. This will take several weeks to arrange.
Due to Switzerland customs regulations, this lot cannot be sold to customers residing in Switzerland
