Authentic mid-century pendant lamp designed by Paavo Tynell for Idman, Finland, 1950s.
Model 1602 features a refined nickel-plated brass stem paired with a spherical opaline glass shade that emits a warm, diffused light. The restrained proportions and soft glow are characteristic of Tynell’s architectural approach to lighting.
Manufacturer’s mark present.

Condition consistent with age and use. Light patina and minor wear to the metal. Glass in good condition. Fully functional.
About the Designer
Paavo Tynell was a pioneering figure in Scandinavian lighting design and co-founder of Taito Oy in 1918. Following Taito’s merger with Idman in 1953, his designs became central to Finland’s international design presence during the mid-20th century.
Tynell’s lighting was exported to the United States and installed in prestigious projects, including Finland House in New York and the United Nations Headquarters. Today his work is highly sought after by collectors of Scandinavian Modern design.
