This Fubako (writing box) is a handcrafted piece of traditional Aizu-nuri (Aizu lacquerware).
The lid features maki-e depicting scenes from Hokusai’s “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji”, including Kanagawa-oki Nami Ura, Gaifu Kaisei, Bishu Fuji Mihara, and Tokaido Hodogaya. The paintings incorporate nashiji (pear-skin) texture, and the entire box is finished in tame-nuri lacquer.
An original tomobako and Aizu lacquerware description sheet are included.
