Vintage Vallauris Ceramic Lamp – Octopus with Marine Scene
France, 1950s–1960s
A striking mid-century ceramic lamp from Vallauris, the famous French pottery center renowned for its expressive and colorful postwar ceramics.
This sculptural piece is shaped as a stylized octopus, whose body forms an open cavity revealing a vivid underwater scene. Inside the composition are coral and anemone formations together with a fish and a starfish, all rendered in vibrant glazes with gilded decorative accents typical of Vallauris production from the period.
The exterior is covered with a deep glossy red glaze with dark mottling, creating a dramatic contrast with the bright interior colors and gold highlights. The sculptural form and lively marine imagery make the piece both a functional lamp and a bold decorative object.
The lamp retains its vintage electrical wire and bulb holder.
Condition:
On the underside there is a visible vein in the ceramic, most likely a firing crack formed during the kiln process rather than a structural break. The piece remains stable and displays well.
A distinctive example of mid-century Vallauris decorative lighting, ideal for collectors of vintage ceramics, marine-themed objects, or French design of the 1950s–1960s.
Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
