Artist Profile
和田山真央 Wadayama Masahiro(1985-)
Wadayama Masahiro was born in Osaka in 1985. After studying ceramics abroad and having his graduation work acquired by the university, he returned to Japan and trained under ceramist Hiruma Kazuyo. Working from his studio in Kada, Wakayama Prefecture, he has developed a highly distinctive ceramic style marked by innovative glaze research, producing works celebrated for their vibrant coloration, including the now-iconic "Mao Blue" (真央ブルー). His works have been selected in numerous prestigious exhibitions, including the Japan Ceramic Arts Exhibition, the Kikuchi Biennale, and the Osaka Crafts Exhibition, where he received the Governor's Award. His porcelain vessels — thin yet durable, functional yet deeply expressive — are widely collected by discerning art lovers and professional chefs alike.
