■ Description

This item is a square Tokoname ware teapot.

The body has a distinctive square form with gently rounded edges. Carved leaf motifs appear on the sides, creating a simple yet powerful design that harmonizes with the subdued dark brown firing color typical of Tokoname ceramics.

The spout and handle project boldly from the body, giving the piece both sculptural presence and practical usability. Inside the teapot, a fine ceramic strainer typical of Tokoname teapots is integrated, making it functional for brewing Japanese tea.

This teapot is attributed to the Tokoname ceramic artist Inaba Sekisui. A maker’s mark can be seen on the side of the piece.

Tokoname ware is known as one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan and has a long history as a major production center for tea wares. This piece can be appreciated both as a functional tea utensil and as a sculptural ceramic work.

A wooden box is included; however, it may be a later matched box rather than the original box made for this piece.

■ Size (approx.)

Width (including spout): approx. 10 cm
Height: approx. 9 cm

Please allow for slight measurement variations.

■ Condition

Minor wear and light surface marks consistent with age and storage may be present.

No significant cracks, chips, or structural damage have been observed.

Please refer to the photographs for the detailed condition.
