賣家描述
法国中世纪英雄在Hermann Paul的大幅木刻肖像中
Mary, André. Le doctrinal des Preux.
Paris, Léon Pichon, 1919. Folio (340 x 240 mm). [28] p.
With 20 large woodcut portraits by Hermann Paul.
White backfold wrapper, printed in red and black.
Issued in 336 copies, this is one of the 300 (no 48) on vélin à la cuve des Papeterie de Rives.
André Mary (1879-1962) was a poet and specialist for mediaeval French literature. Inspired by his birth ground, Burgundy, much of his work was inspired by the mediaeval times, which is also the case in this work, where mediaeval heroes are portrayed by Hermann Paul and described in a short poem by Mary.
Hermann Paul (1864-1940) was a French caricaturist and illustrator. He worked in many techniques, but after World War I mainly in woodcut. His inspirations became in this period more literary than journalistic. His style evolved from a Belle Époque line to a modernist simplification.
- Literature: Carteret V, p. 133.
- Condition: Wrapper a bit browned; else a very fine copy.
