Takayama 藥櫃 kusuri’dansu,桐木,原裝,20世紀初 日本,高74 cm,寬65 cm,深24 cm,69 個抽屜及原始內容,含真實性證書;不對外運輸至歐盟以外。
賣家描述
A lovely Takayama apothecary cabinet 薬箪笥 (kusuri’dansu) fitted with no less than 69 drawers - 64 small, 3 medium and 2 large at the bottom row. Fully cleaned and waxed.
A special feature is that the original medicine labels are still present on the drawer faces, and even more special: many of the drawers still contain various medicines in a range of shapes, forms and packaging. It is very rare to find a apothecary cabinet still filled to the brim with original contents, such as ground lotus powder, plum blossoms and wild carrot.
The cabinet is crafted from kiri (paulownia) wood finished in a dark brown hue that has developed an appealing aged patina over time.
Each smaller drawer is fitted with a circular wooden knob. The larger drawers at the bottom are of a ‘panel’-type, a typical feature of Takayama cabinets. With the grips hidden underneath the upper slat. They are adorned with panels made of a burl wood in a lighter shade of brown.
The drawers are generously deep and run smoothly. The sides feature small rectangular grips, for easy transport.
Period: Japan – Early 20th century (Late Meiji period/Taishô period)
Dimensions:
Height 74 cm, Width 65 cm, Depth 24 cm
Originates from Takayama in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
In a very good condition with minor traces of wear consistent with age. Please refer to the photos for a clear condition reference.
Apothecary chests were used by doctors and teahouses to store medicinal ingredients and remedies. They are also known as hyakumi-dansu(“hundred flavors chest”)for their many compartments to sort traditional medicines, or hyakume-dansu(“hundred eyes chest”)due to the rows of round handles that resemble watchful eyes.
When shipped, we will include a certificate of authenticity.
NB: Due to its contents we don't sell and ship outside of the EU.
