Swordsmith  Zuiunshi Zensada

Zuiunshi Zensada, real name Yamamura Shigematsu, was one of the leading gendaitō masters of Kōchi Prefecture Tosa. He trained under Kawashima Tadayoshi (first generation) and received the Army Technical Encouragement Association Chairman’s Award, a distinction reserved for swordsmiths of exceptional technical ability.

He later served as an Honorary Master of the National Institute of Technology, reflecting his status not only as a craftsman but also as a technical authority. Zensada is particularly admired for his classical sensibility, Bizen-influenced workmanship, and outstanding skill in horimono (blade engraving).

Blade Description  Wakizashi

NBTHK formally classifies this blade as a wakizashi (short sword). Despite its relatively compact length, the blade displays an exceptionally powerful sugata, defined by its remarkable width and thickness. These proportions give the sword a strong and commanding presence rarely encountered in modern wakizashi.

The minimal curvature creates a dignified and restrained appearance, while the refined jigane and controlled workmanship confirm that this is a fully traditional gendaitō, forged with artistic intent rather than utilitarian purpose.
