Description

Elegant pair of hand-painted porcelain ginger jars with lids featuring richly detailed decorative motifs inspired by European Renaissance grotesque ornamentation.

The decoration shows cherubs, mythical creatures, birds, and scrolling baroque cartouches, arranged in intricate panels across a vivid yellow ground band, with additional multicolour decoration in cobalt blue, iron red, and gilt tones.

The lids feature elaborate heraldic-style cartouches with classical figures surrounded by scrolling foliage and mythical animals. Each jar is topped with a gilt-coloured knop finial.

The underside bears a manufacturer’s mark reading:

“Hand Painted
Made in China
Manufactured by Allen Foo”

Pieces of this type were produced as decorative porcelain in the late 20th century, combining traditional Chinese porcelain craftsmanship with European revival motifs inspired by 18th-century Sevres and Minton designs.
