賣家描述
Ancient Roman Terracotta Amphora / Vessel Fragment with Handle – Marine Encrustations – Display Stand Included – 1st–4th Century AD
Description:
An impressive and authentic fragment of an ancient terracotta vessel, most likely dating to the Roman period (circa 1st–4th century AD). The piece preserves a substantial section of the rim, neck and handle of what was once a large ceramic storage vessel, possibly an amphora or transport jug used in the ancient Mediterranean.
The fragment clearly shows the characteristic concentric wheel-throwing lines created during the original manufacturing process on a potter’s wheel. The robust handle and thick ceramic walls indicate a functional storage or transport vessel.
Particularly striking are the natural marine calcareous encrustations visible along the rim and handle. These formations are consistent with long-term exposure in a marine or coastal environment and add significant archaeological character to the piece.
Due to its sculptural form and the visible traces of age and history, the fragment makes a remarkable display object and conversation piece for collectors of antiquities, maritime artifacts, or ancient ceramics.
The object is presented together with a display stand, allowing it to be exhibited immediately in a collection, cabinet of curiosities, or interior setting.
Condition:
Ancient fragmentary condition as expected. Surface wear, mineral deposits and natural encrustations consistent with age and long-term burial or marine exposure. Structurally stable.
Measurements:
Weight: approx. 1 kg
Rim opening diameter: approx. 65 mm
Provenance:
From a European private collection / estate clearance.
