Product Details: Katsumitsu Cast Copper Phoenix and Bird and Flower Design Double-Eared Vase
This copper vase exudes a sense of dignity, combining skilled casting techniques with delicate engraving.
Artist: Katsumitsu
Katsumitsu is known as an artist active in the traditional copperworks production area of Takaoka, where copperware is produced, and specializes in intricate relief carving.
Design and Detail:
Phoenix and Bird and Flower Design: The body of the vase features dynamic relief carvings of the legendary auspicious bird, the phoenix, as well as seasonal flowers and small birds. The phoenix is a symbol of peace and prosperity, and has been revered as an auspicious design since ancient times.
Souji (double ears): The neck of the bottle is equipped with symmetrical handles called "ears," enhancing its classic, elegant design.
Ishime (stone grain) background: The "ishime" technique creates a finely textured background, emphasizing the design and making it appear more three-dimensional.
Material and color:
Cast copper: Made using a casting technique in which copper is melted and poured into a mold, it gives a unique sense of weight and durability.
Bronze (antique copper): A deep color that changes to a subdued luster over time, it is perfect for Japanese spaces such as a tokonoma alcove or entryway.
Uses and appeal:
Not only can it be used as a vase for flower arranging (ikebana), but its high artistic value makes it an extremely valuable piece that can also be displayed as a decorative ornament (floor decoration) on its own.
