Traditionally, Kafigueledio represents justice among the Senufo. He is associated with the Poro and is as sacred as the Wanyugo mask, which represents wisdom. In Senufo villages, when there is a theft, murder, or any offense, the village chief gathers all the inhabitants in the village square. A dancer arrives, the bearer of Kafigueledio. This dancer goes into a trance, and the Kafigueledio figure must then designate the culprit with its branch-shaped arms. The population lives in fear of Kafigueledio. Children fear him because he is considered a sorcerer.

Because of its function, we can liken it to the Bozo Puppets, as it is manipulated by a dancer and serves as a medium to designate the culprit; during this ritual, the movements of the manipulating dancer accentuate the movements of the figurine, whose articulated arms gesticulate exaggeratedly. The spectators accept the mask or puppet as being possessed by a supreme power.
