賣家描述
Marka Style Tribal Mask – Mali / Burkina Faso
This elongated wooden mask is attributed to the Marka cultural area of West Africa, located in present-day Mali and Burkina Faso. Masks of this type are traditionally associated with ceremonial performances and community rituals.
The sculpture is characterized by its long, narrow face, almond-shaped eyes and a prominent straight nose extending down the center of the mask. The two vertical projections on the forehead form a distinctive crest, giving the piece a strong and elegant presence.
Decorative brass plates fixed with small metal rivets are applied to the surface of the mask. These metal elements create a striking contrast with the dark patina of the wood and add an additional symbolic and aesthetic dimension to the object.
Carved from a single piece of wood, the mask displays visible wear, surface marks and a dark patina consistent with age and handling. The minimalist geometry and balanced proportions are typical of traditional West African tribal art.
Today, masks of the Marka cultural sphere are appreciated by collectors for their powerful design and their importance within the artistic traditions of the Sahel region.
Origin: Mali / Burkina Faso
Cultural attribution: Marka style
Material: Wood and brass elements
Period: 20th century
Condition: Good condition with visible signs of age and use.
The stand is used for display purposes only and is not included in the sale.
