Excellent mid 17th century Russian icon from a church iconostasis, with 2 fields: the lower field depicts the celebrated Church father Saint John Chrysostymos ( with the golden mouth) a Byzantine bishop who could preach so well that he could keep crowds listening for 2,5 hours. He is shown here in full lenght in Byzantine liturgical vestments, holding a Gospel book. In the upper register the Introduction of the Holy Virgin in the Temple. This Central Russian icon is in good condition for a piece of this age and has its original background. Museum quality icon with restorations. A rare find.
