■ Description
This is a Bizen ware tea bowl created by Isshu Mori.
Bizen ware is one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan, characterized by its unglazed surface and the natural effects created during high-temperature firing. Instead of applied glaze, the clay develops rich textures and unique appearances through kiln transformations.
In this piece, natural firing effects such as goma (sesame-like ash deposits), hiiro (reddish fire marks), and scorch marks can be observed, creating a powerful and expressive surface typical of Bizen ware.
The bowl has a well-balanced, slightly rounded form. The rim shows subtle irregularities, reflecting the warmth of handcraftsmanship. Inside, faint wheel marks are visible, and the piece is expected to develop further character with use.
Around the foot, natural color variations from firing highlight the beauty of the clay.
The original wooden box (tomobako) is inscribed “Bizen ware,” and a biography document is included, supporting the authenticity and background of the artist.
⸻
■ Size
Diameter: approx. 12 cm
Height: approx. 7.6 cm
Please note that slight deviations may occur due to manual measurement.
⸻
■ Condition
There are minor signs of age and use, including slight wear and stains.
There is a stain inside the bowl that appears to be similar to a tape mark.
Kiln effects such as natural ash deposits, fire marks, scorch marks, and rough clay texture are inherent characteristics of Bizen ware and are not defects.
No major chips or cracks are observed. Overall, the item is in good condition.
Please refer to the photos for details.
