Suiseki is a Japanese culture and hobby of appreciating stones indoors. Natural stones are placed on a base or in a water basin and surrounded by sand.
The name "Suiseki" comes from the fact that when water is poured over the stone in a water basin, its color deepens and it appears more beautiful. Another theory is that it is an abbreviation of "Sansui-seki" or "Sansui-kei-seki." These were highly valued as decorations for tea ceremony niches during the aristocratic and samurai periods in Japan, and were prized as stones that evoked landscapes. This stone is a beautiful and exceptional piece, and it is believed that many of the decorative stones used before the Meiji era were landscape stones like this one.
Dimensions: 8.5cm x 23cm x 12cm
