Description
Fujiwara Sadatoshi [藤原 貞俊] was a swordsmith at the end of the Edo period. He left a katana with a long inscription reading:
“Sasaki Ichiryusai Minamoto Sadatoshi, made from iron from the Tsuyama River of Mount Yazawa in Higashiyama, Mutsu.”
[佐々木一流斎源貞俊陸奥東山津谷川流谷沢山以出鉄作之]
He is said to be a descendant of the Mogusa school of Mutsu Province.
He forged swords in Shirakawa and later became a swordsmith for the Mito clan, producing blades at the Shirahatayama weapons workshop.
His home province was Oshu. He used the art names (go) Seishinshi [清心子] and Ichiryusai [一流斎].
This wakizashi has bo-hi with soe-hi on both sides, a dense and moist mokume hada, and a soroi-gunome juzu-ha hamon.
The carefully finished nakago shows the craftsmanship of the master.
It is an excellent work that appears to be a reproduction inspired by Kotetsu.
This blade received Tokubetsu Hozon Token certification in 2024.
