Substantial D-section hoop set with a red jasper intaglio finely carved with a Gryllos motif consisting of conjoined heads of a youth, a bearded man, a satyr, and a horse. An ear of wheat filler. Gryllos were a type of grotesque caricature typically blending human heads with animals. These hybrid images were often engraved on gems as protective amulets to avert the evil eye.
