大型非洲木質儀式人像,來自象牙海岸,包雷(Baule)風格,時期約1900–2000,來源:德國弗萊堡私人收藏。
賣家描述
A striking and highly unusual African ritual object combining a sculptural human figure with a mask element, executed in a refined and expressive carving style.
The elongated body is elegantly stylized, with simplified anatomical features and a smooth, time-worn surface. The head is formed as a mask with large circular eye openings and a pronounced geometric structure, topped by a horned animal motif. The reverse features an abstract, angular crest-like element, adding to the symbolic and ritual character of the piece.
Such composite objects are associated with West African traditions, particularly in the regions of Ivory Coast (Baule, Senufo or related cultural groups), where masks and figures often carry spiritual and ceremonial significance.
The surface shows a rich dark patina with visible wear, minor losses, and age-related cracks, all consistent with handling and use over time.
This is not a standard decorative mask but a large and visually powerful sculptural object.
Provenance: Private collection, Freiburg (Germany).
