Strong colors of reds, blues, and yellows in circles, splotches, and rectangles meet our gaze in this fascinating look into the imagination of Miró. As strong black outlines denote a rather interesting creature that's not quite human or animal, a jovial and carefree mood comes over us as we take in the creature's pleasure of its equally strange surroundings.
Created in 1972, the original lithograph is one in a series of eleven lithographs created to illustrate the text by Michel Leiris. Hand-signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right, this work is annotated H.C. (Hors de Commerce) in pencil in the lower left.
