賣家描述
Authentic ancient Greek silver tetradrachm
Obverse:
Helmeted head of Athena facing right, wearing a crested Attic helmet. Despite circulation wear, the facial structure and helmet outline remain visible, giving the coin strong historical character.
Reverse:
Owl standing right (symbol of wisdom and the city of Athens), with olive sprig and crescent. Traces of the ethnic inscription “ΑΘΕ” are partially visible. The reverse design remains identifiable, even with heavy wear.
Specifications:
• Metal: Silver (AR)
• Weight: 16.50 g (within expected tetradrachm standard)
• Diameter: irregular (typical for hammered coinage)
• Condition: Heavily circulated / worn – surfaces smooth with softened details
• Authenticity: Sold as an ancient piece; buyers are encouraged to form their own opinion
Historical significance:
Athenian “owl” tetradrachms are among the first international trade currencies in history, circulating widely across the Mediterranean world. Owning such a piece connects directly to the era of Pericles, the Parthenon, and the rise of classical civilization.
Remarks for collectors:
• Strong, correct weight for the type
• Classic archaic style and fabric
• Ideal as an entry-level example or study piece of ancient Greek coinage
• Increasingly sought-after due to their historical importance
