賣家描述
Important Villanovan Ceramic Fragment with Rare Molded Animal Frieze - 18 cm
Technical Data:
Culture: Villanovan / Early Etruscan (Orientalizing influence).
Chronology: 8th Century BC.
Material: Impasto ceramic.
Height: 18 cm.
Description:
A significant archaeological ceramic fragment, likely belonging to the shoulder or body of a very large prestigious vessel (such as a pithos or dolium). This piece is exceptional due to the rare molded relief decoration running along its upper section. The relief, applied using a cylinder stamp, depicts a repeating animal frieze (procession of felines or deer), characteristic of the strong Orientalizing stylistic influences that began merging with the Villanovan culture during the 8th Century BC. The fragment displays a rich archaeological patina and substantial thickness, indicative of a vessel of considerable scale. This type of decorative technique is rare on standard wares and highlights the high status of the original object.
Condition Report:
Archaeological fragment in stable condition. Unrestored. The surface shows wear, encrustations, and minor losses consistent with its age and long burial, especially on the raised points of the relief. However, the details of the animal frieze remain discernible through careful inspection under directional light.
Professional Reference:
The authenticity, historical significance, and decorative rarity of this fragment have been confirmed by Madame Marie-Margaux Cohen, a recognized specialist in Mediterranean Archaeology and expert at the Court of Appeal in Paris.
Legal & Documentation:
Sold with a legal invoice
Includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
Accompanied by a Spanish Export License issued by the Ministry of Culture.
