Refined Antique Japanese Meiji Period Makie Suzuribako | Nashiji Lacquer | Pine Bamboo Plum Design | With Drawer & Original Box
The entire box is covered in deep black lacquer, exquisitely decorated with maki-e patterns depicting the "Three Friends of Winter"—pine, bamboo, and plum—symbolizing resilience, purity, and longevity, important symbols of traditional Japanese aesthetics. The decoration is delicately layered with gold, creating distinct layers and flowing lines, showcasing an exceptionally high level of craftsmanship.
The interior of the box is treated with a **pear-shaped lacquer (Nashiji)** finish, with gold powder evenly distributed, resembling stars in a night sky—understated yet magnificent, creating a striking contrast with the gold maki-e exterior and embodying typical Japanese lacquer art aesthetics.
The ingenious structural design includes a pull-out drawer containing an inkstone holder, ink box, and other scholar's implements, combining practicality and aesthetic appeal. The top is adorned with woven rope and decorative tassels, further enhancing its antique charm.
It comes with its original wooden box (a vintage box), which is extremely rare to find today, making its overall collectible value significant.
Dimensions: 26.5 x 21 x 21.5 cm
Good condition, there are stains, wear off, etc., from aging and using, please also take a look at the listed photos for a reference.
Will be well packaged and shipping by Japan Post in fast delivery.
