After working in design for an Arita ceramic manufacturer, he established his independent studio at the age of 36. He is a member of Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition) and has served as a juror since 1991. His career has focused on the technically demanding study of cinnabar glazes, and he has received the Nitten Special Prize twice, as well as the Minister of Education Award at the Japan New Craft Exhibition. He has also served as Director of the Japan New Craft Artists Federation and Vice Chairman of the Saga Prefecture Ceramic Artists Association.
