4-person tea service – Richard Ginori, Mondovì manufactory – Hand-painted decoration “Walterabile”
Elegant and sought-after Italian tea service signed Richard Ginori, produced at the historic Mondovì manufactory, as evidenced by the original mark on the bottom. The service is enriched by the refined hand-painted decoration Walterabile, today increasingly appreciated by collectors for its graphic sobriety and its strongly modern character.
The design stands out for a rationalist and déco language, with essential cylindrical shapes and an elegant play of horizontal bands in brun / earth of Siena, paired with thin black borders on an ivory-white background. A balanced, measured composition of great taste, typical of the best Italian productions from the 1930s and 1940s.
The cups feature a versatile, intermediary size: more for tea than for coffee, also ideal as a refined breakfast service.
This service belongs to Richard Ginori’s pre-war phase of stylistic renewal, anticipating that path of modernization of the formal language that the manufactory would fully develop in the post-war period, also thanks to central figures such as Antonia Campi. While not directly attributed to the designer, the service foreshadows its cultural climate, oriented toward functionality, purity of form, and dialogue with modern architecture.
Composition of the service:
• 4 teacups
• 4 matching saucers
• 1 teapot
• 1 sugar bowl with lid
• 1 milk jug
Conditions:
Good / very good overall condition. Normal signs of aging consistent with the age and use, visible mainly on the bottom of some pieces. No detectable breakage or chipping; decorations well preserved and glazes still brilliant.
An elegant, complete and increasingly rare service, ideal for Richard Ginori porcelain collectors, lovers of early 20th-century Italian design and the great tradition of applied arts.
