TANIGUCHI Ryozo (1926–1996) – Stoneware Vase – Rarely offered in Europe – With signed tomobako
Stoneware vase signed by Taniguchi Ryozo (1926–1996), a major Kyoto ceramic artist. The piece shows a tapered, elegant form and a blue‑green glaze characteristic of his later production. The leaf motif is created using wax‑resist decoration, where a thin wax layer protects the clay before glazing, leaving the vegetal pattern visible after firing.
Sold with its original signed tomobako.
Dimensions:
Height 24 cm
Diameter 9 cm.
Taniguchi Ryozo was an influential Japanese ceramic artist trained under Kiyomizu Rokubei VI. He was selected for Nitten from 1951 and received several distinctions, including the Japan Ceramics Society Award. His works are part of the Imperial Collection and were shown during official events. His mature period is marked by a shift from red/brown glazes to more complex blue and green glazes.
