物品描述
山本出 Yamamoto Izuru(1944-)
This Bizen-yaki tea bowl (chawan) is a masterful work by Yamamoto Izuru, an Okayama Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property holder and son of the Living National Treasure Yamamoto Toshu. Crafted using traditional Bizen-style firing without glaze, the bowl showcases the dramatic beauty of natural kiln effects (sangiri and hidasuki). The exterior transitions organically from deep charcoal-grey to warm iron-red and burgundy tones, with natural ash deposits creating subtle golden-brown streaks — a testament to the unpredictable artistry of the anagama kiln. The interior reveals a stunning range of deep orange, amber, and dark brown hues with swirling mark patterns from the firing process, evoking a sense of depth and warmth. The small, stable ring foot (kodai) is unglazed, displaying the natural raw clay of Bizen. The bottom bears Izuru's incised personal seal. The piece is accompanied by its original artist-signed wooden storage box (tomobako), inscribed with the title Bizen Chawan and bearing the artist's red seal — a mark of authenticity and provenance that significantly adds to its collectible value.

Artist Profile
山本出 Yamamoto Izuru(1944-)
Yamamoto Izuru was born in 1944 in Inbe, Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, the fourth son of Yamamoto Toshu, a Living National Treasure of Bizen ceramics. He studied sculpture and carving at Musashino Art University, graduating in 1967 and 1968 with top honors and prizes. He subsequently studied sculpture at the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts in Paris for two years. Upon returning to Japan, he trained under his father and developed his own distinctive artistic techniques: "Tatakikomi" (patted clay), "Shussai" (colored clay surface expression), and "Tsumiage" (layered clay building), the last of which was inspired by his discovery of Bourgogne clay in France. He has been recognized as an Okayama Prefecture Important Intangible Cultural Property holder. His works have been exhibited internationally, including at the French National Ceramics Museum, and he has won numerous prestigious awards including the Tabata Museum Grand Prize and the Kikuchi Biennale Grand Prize.
