This is the Rhomb kilim from the Parquet collection, a set of three rugs inspired by old parquet flooring patterns. Swedish studio Front has applied traditional parquet configurations and geometry to light kilim rugs, in a bright color palette that adds a sense of three-dimensionality to the pieces.

In the case of Rhomb, this conscientious color range makes the figures of diamonds and squares acquire, depending on the perspective, a certain dynamism. Its irregular shape allows for interesting compositions of more than one piece.

The kilim is an artisan method of rug making in which the weft is tightly woven on a manual loom, using only threads and no knotting. The result is a light fabric with no pile, similar to that of upholstery. It is a technique that offers great flexibility, a feature that GAN explores thoroughly to create high-impact details.

Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren are the members of the Swedish design group Front. Their works are based on common discussions, explorations and experiments and they collaborate in all projects from initial ideas to the final product. Front’s design objects often communicate a story to the observer about the design process, about the material it is made of or about conventions within the design field. In their work they have assigned part of the making of design to animals, computers or machines.
