Antique Mongolian / Tibetan Buddhist Tsakli Ritual Card – Hand Painted – Late 19th Century
Rare small Buddhist ritual painting (Tsakli / Tsa-kli) from Mongolia or the Tibetan cultural sphere, dating to the late 19th century.
This ritual figure most likely symbolizes devotional offering and spiritual abundance within Tibetan-Mongolian Buddhist tradition. The bowl or cup represents sacred offerings, blessing, or ritual nectar associated with prosperity and purification. The surrounding floral motifs symbolize purity, harmony, and spiritual awakening.
Tsakli cards were traditionally used in Tibetan and Mongolian Buddhist monastic rituals, tantric ceremonies, meditation practices, and initiatory rites. Such objects were often produced for ritual use inside monasteries and temple workshops.
The piece shows convincing signs of age and authentic historical use:
oxidized handmade paper,
natural pigment fading,
softened edges,
surface wear and abrasions,
and a warm aged patina developed over time.
The expressive brushwork and traditional iconography are characteristic of Himalayan Buddhist folk devotional art of the late 19th
Dimensions: approximately 8 cm height.
Condition:
Good antique condition with visible age-related wear, stains, abrasions, and minor losses consistent with age and ritual handling.
Provenance:
Acquired from a professional art and antiques gallery.
