antique Levantine Copper Ewer with Basin – Ottoman Copperwork – 19th Century
Description
An antique hand-crafted copper ewer with matching basin, associated with the Levantine metalworking tradition of the Ottoman period and likely originating from Syria during the 19th century.
The set consists of a tall pear-shaped pouring vessel with elongated curved spout and hinged lid, accompanied by its original matching basin. The entire surface displays extensive hand-hammered workmanship and authentic signs of age.
The body of the ewer is decorated with repeating repoussé geometric and stylised foliate motifs, while the elongated neck features vertical architectural ribbing that enhances the elegant overall form.
The basin features deeply fluted radiating decoration together with pierced ornamental openwork around the central support section. Engraved and hand-worked decorative details remain visible throughout the piece.
The contrasting brass-toned handle and finial create a striking visual balance against the copper body and are characteristic of traditional Near Eastern metalwork.
The interior surfaces preserve visible traces of age, oxidation, and prolonged use, contributing to the authenticity and historical presence of the object.
An authentic and decorative example of antique Syrian / Levantine copper craftsmanship from the Ottoman era.
The photographs form an integral part of the description and condition report.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped securely.
Dimensions are clearly visible in the photographs.
