賣家描述
decorative oil lamp in antiqued finish, inspired by Roman bronze lamps of the imperial period. The piece has a balanced construction with a plastically worked body and artistically designed grip ending, conveying a convincing historical aura.
Material & surface
Bronze or bronze-like with green-brown patina. The surface shows age-related traces, light wear, and irregular discolorations that visually emphasize the antique character.
Description / Form
A bronze oil lamp, consisting of a conical base and a pear-shaped body with a wide, rounded nozzle.
The central filling opening is slightly curved and equipped with a hinged lid that displays a cast head of Silenus — a figure popular in the ancient world from the Dionysian milieu.
From the rear rises an intricately pierced palmette, serving as a decorative grip end and giving the object an especially elegant silhouette. The design recalls late antique lamp types with an ornamental structure.
A similar specimen is in the National Museum Bangkok, which underscores the stylistic classification of this type.
Dimensions
Overall: ca. 14 × 20 × 6.5 cm
Body: ca. 9 × 14 × 6.5 cm
Wear, abrasion and minor dents visible. Patina and surface texture look lively and support the antique appearance. Overall decorative, collectible condition.
Style: Roman bronze lamp
Dating (typological): ca. 100–300 AD
The temporal placement is based on formal comparison pieces; no scientific age testing is available.
Offered as an object in the style of ancient bronze lamps. A secured provenance or scientific dating is not available.
