This elegant flower vase by certified Traditional Craftsman Fujii Shumei is finished in a deep Tenmoku glaze, swept through with luminous silver-white streaks that flow like flowing water across the rounded body. The lustrous black surface catches and scatters light, giving the piece a quiet, dramatic presence. The form — a full, generous body rising to a softly flared mouth — reflects the refined balance of traditional Arita craftsmanship. Complete with its original signed wooden box (tomobako).

Fujii Shumei (藤井朱明) (1936–2017) was a certified Traditional Craftsman based in Arita, Saga Prefecture — the historic heart of Japanese porcelain. He first exhibited at the Nitten in 1962 and went on to be selected fifteen times, later founding his own Shumei kiln. His work earned numerous honours, including awards at the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition and the Kyushu-Yamaguchi Ceramic Exhibition. He held the position of Nitten Associate Member. Works by Fujii Shumei are no longer in production. This is a finite body of work.
