Michelin - 一对重型金属广告牌(完整意大利地图,2块面板)- 1974 版
Beautiful and rare pair of original heavy sheet metal advertising signs by Michelin, dating back to 1974. The lot consists of two distinct and complementary panels which, when placed together, form the complete road map of Italy. The first panel shows Northern and Central Italy, while the second panel covers Southern Italy and the major Islands, with Sicily and Sardegna displayed in dedicated insets.
Finding both panels preserved together is exceptionally rare, as most of these large wall maps were separated over the decades. Originally intended for the interior decor of Italian car repair shops, service stations, or travel agencies, they feature the iconic official graphics with the famous Michelin Man (Bibendum) and the classic yellow logo on a blue background.
Technical Details
These signs were manufactured by Manufacture Française des Pneumatiques MICHELIN for the 1974 edition, as printed on the edges: “MICHELIN et Cie, propriétaires-éditeurs 1974”. The language used is Italian, reading "Estratto della carta MICHELIN 'Le grandi strade'". The lot contains 2 single-sided signs. Each panel measures 76 x 62 cm and is made of heavy sheet metal, pre-drilled at the corners for wall mounting.
Condition Report
The lot is in beautiful original vintage condition, showing an authentic patina that highlights its history. The graphics and colors remain exceptionally vivid and bright; the white background has maintained great gloss with no major sun fading, leaving the cartography sharp and fully legible. Regarding the signs of age, rust and oxidation are present mainly along the perimeter edges, corners, and mounting holes. The back surface shows scratches and natural signs of wear from storage on its yellow protective finish, which do not affect the front aesthetics. The overall metal structure is solid and sturdy. This is a perfect piece of industrial decor and vintage automobilia for collectors, classic car garages, offices, or design lofts.
