Velvety Oak Meets Fruity Intensity

The 2017 vintage of the Immortal Estate Impassable Mountain Reserve presents itself in a deep, rich ruby red. Its visual intensity hints at the wine’s concentration of aromas and maturity. The clear, brilliant color promises a high-quality tasting experience.

On the nose, complex aromas of oak, vanilla, and chocolate unfold, accompanied by intense notes of black fruits such as plum and blackberry. Subtle hints of leather and earthy nuances, supported by a delicate mineral freshness, round out the bouquet.

On the palate, the wine is opulent and full-bodied. Smooth, velvety tannins harmonize perfectly with pronounced fruit sweetness and subtle oak notes. The lively acidity provides a refreshing finish, while lingering notes of dark chocolate and oak remain on the palate.

In the windy heights of the Mayacama Mountains, Juan Servin has been working for decades. In an environment where workers regularly give up or stop showing up because the slopes exceed 55 degrees and elevations reach 1,000 meters, he tends to “his vineyard garden,” supports his family, and defends the land against wildfires, wild animals, and drought. He himself does not drink wine. But Robert Parker does.

People discover bottles of fine wine on the ocean floor that have survived for decades or centuries. A bottle of wine is therefore almost an immortal witness to history — a snapshot of a place and time. The wines from these vineyards are such wines.

What Robert Parker discovered as a true hidden gem from Sonoma soon became a global sensation. In the 1990s, winemakers A. Hofacket and T. Milos laid the foundation for the nearly 60-hectare Hidden Ridge Vineyards, now rebranded as Immortal Estate — the winery recognized by the immortal jellyfish on its label.

Timothy Milos is the genius behind these wines, bringing more than 20 years of experience with these same vines into every bottle. After years of hard work, he achieved a breakthrough in 2013 by producing his first 100-point Parker-rated wine. Shortly afterward, Robert Parker retired.

“One success means little — the art lies in consistency,” says owner Daniel Nichols.

And Immortal Estate has proven its consistency: since the 2013 vintage, all Impassable wines have consistently scored above 97 points, while all Slope wines have remained above 93 points. Then came another breakthrough with the 2016 vintage: another perfect 100-point score. Robert Parker’s successor, Jeb Dunnuck, awarded the highest possible rating and described it as “pure perfection.”
