Rare Bauhaus-inspired desk lamp designed by Christian Dell and manufactured by Koranda, Vienna.

Offered for auction is an original Model 2035 (formerly TL 122) desk lamp, attributed to the renowned German designer Christian Dell (1893–1974) and produced by Koranda Leuchtenmanufaktur, Vienna, in the post-war period (circa 1946–1952).

Christian Dell was one of the leading figures of the Bauhaus movement and is internationally celebrated for his functional lighting designs. His lamps combine industrial aesthetics with exceptional practicality and have become highly collectible design classics.

This model features a distinctive hemispherical steel shade finished in its original moss-green lacquer, a curved chromed arm, and an elegant wooden grip that allows easy adjustment of the lamp position. The articulated shade can be tilted and rotated to direct the light precisely where needed. The lamp remains in good vintage condition with attractive signs of age and use consistent with its history. The original lacquer shows minor wear, small paint losses and surface marks, which contribute to its authentic character. No significant dents or structural damage observed. The electrical system has been updated with a later cable for safe everyday use.

Historical Background

Christian Dell studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Weimar and later became a master craftsman at the Bauhaus metal workshop. His lighting designs from the 1920s and 1930s are among the most influential examples of modernist industrial design. The Koranda-produced models are considerably rarer than the better-known Kaiser Idell lamps and are increasingly sought after by collectors of Bauhaus and European modernist design.
